Constipation
What a topic for me to write about, isn't it? lol...
I'm sure most of us know what constipation means, and i simply would like to put it as: visit to toilet without "doing big business", only "small business".
What i would like to share this time is that: why we can become constipate at times? and what can we do when it happens?
Last Friday, we were evacuated to Solo due to volcanic ashes covering Jogja and mount Merapi eruption and unpredictable activity. We spend 3 days there, and was flown home on Sunday evening. Till that point, i can only remembered that my last visit to the toilet was Friday morning. 2 days no "big business"! oh my...
My reasons for not being able to pass motion:
1. The toilet is not mine!
It simply means that i'm not comfortable to use the toilet. It's just a psychological thing actually...
2. I'm not in the mood la...
Not in the mood? lol... yet another psychological reason... imagine yourself being evacuated, without any knowledge of how long it's going to be and what will happen next. you just can't find peace. eventually, nothing wanna come out... hehe!
3. Not much went in...
On Friday, i remembered eating breakfast: a cup of Milo, only. from that time to night, which i ate sphaghetti and KFC chicken, nothing else went in. As shown, no fibre intake at all! what can my stomach digest? what can my colon produce for the next day to come out? i wondered...
4. Period...
At home, everything's good. food. toilet. something's not right then, cause i don't feel like going to toilet. like something blocking. when i checked the calender, oh, my period is gonna visit me soon. period in girls (sure la, where got boys with period? haha!) usually can be preceded with constipation. i'm one of the example. you might feel bloated. once period comes, then your bowel movement might be stimulated and everything's back to normal.
Now, let's look at the other side. how can we overcome constipation?
For me, to overcome constipation is quite simple actually.
1. Give me my toilet!
by having a comfortable toilet will do sometime. i can't stand of not going to toilet for few days, hence, even a quite clean (not dark and dirty) will do. for public toilet, i prefer those squatting one actually. i know a lot of people would say "no" to squatting toilet, but let me give you my reason. If it's a sitting toilet, how sure are you that the person who used it before you had good hygiene? or how sure are you that the seat is clean, that you can really put your butt on it without any worries? not even a bit? i can't for sure!!! that's why whenever i face this situation, i have my own solution. eik! don't you think that i would climb on the toilet, nope! i would simply be half squatting! lol... but this only applies for "small business". as for "big business", i would recommend to use tissue as a barrier between your butt and the toilet. Hence, my recommendation to those toilet providers: please provide those round shape paper for sitting on toilet. isn't that good? especially for pregnant women, this would be a great thing, cause they do no need to squat to use the toilet. As for everyone, it sounds more hygienic, isn't it?
ok, back to topic...
2. Relax! DOn't tense/stress...
Whenever our emotion is not controlled, or when we stressed, we tend to be "off" and cannot function normally as usual. the evacuation obviously did soared my mood to unstable and indescribable condition. when i reached KL on Sunday, i still can't pass motion. no sense of doing so at all! the nest day, when i'm on the way back to my home in kk on bus, i started to feel more relax to a point where when we stopped at a rest place to eat, i have the sensation. off to the toilet i go! lucky me that the toilet is quite clean.
3. Chill...peristaltic...
Actually i have to add that the aircond in the bus and wind when i get down chill me a bit. it causes peristaltic movement (bowel movement) in me. I've even experienced sitting in front of the computer would do so too, cause i'm totally relax and can finally let my bowel do it's work... lol! i'm sure you have your ways and should find time to relax any time you can, not only in time of constipation... lol!
4. Drink milk...
Perhaps i have lactose intolerance? i dun know, but most Asians do. i love milk and will definitely drink it everyday if possible. =) you can try other food such as spicy food(it works for me as well) and others like fruits juices, vege, soya and lots more...
5. Eat eat eat!
What enters, that goes out! if you seldom eat or drink, what will your intestine absorb and produce stool from?
Eat healthily is important to keep yourself healthy (everyone knows!). don't ever try to go on crazy diet just to get the so called ideal body weight or shape. your health worth much more than those things!!! i'm not saying that you can eat anything as you like, but, i'm just trying to convey that choose your food wisely and have a balance and healthy diet.
Oops!~ Not to forget one important thing, as the proverb goes, prevention is better that cure. To prevent constipation, the solution is simple: keep yourself hydrated. drink a lot of water. fyi, 90% of stool is water. the rest are bacteria, fibre and etc. try to train yourself to go to toilet at a specific time in the day, this helps a lot too.
That's it from me, about constipation... =)
